Acceptable Use Policy

Effective Date: February 1, 2026

1. Purpose

This Acceptable Use Policy ("Policy") governs your use of RedactLaw's AI-powered legal document redaction platform ("the Service"). By using RedactLaw, you agree to comply with this Policy and acknowledge that violations may result in suspension or termination of your account. This Policy is designed to protect the integrity of our Service, ensure security for all users, and maintain compliance with applicable laws.

2. Permitted Use

RedactLaw is intended for the following lawful purposes:

  • Redacting sensitive information from legal documents, court filings, discovery materials, and other legal records
  • Processing documents in connection with litigation, legal compliance, regulatory submissions, and internal legal workflows
  • Using the Service in accordance with applicable professional responsibility rules, including attorney-client privilege and confidentiality obligations
  • Collaboration with authorized team members within your organization or law firm who have legitimate access to the documents

3. Prohibited Activities

The following activities are strictly prohibited when using RedactLaw:

3.1 Malicious Content

You may not upload files containing viruses, malware, trojans, ransomware, or any other malicious code designed to harm, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to our systems or the systems of other users.

3.2 Reverse Engineering

You may not attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise derive the source code, algorithms, or underlying AI models used by RedactLaw. This includes probing the Service with adversarial inputs designed to expose model behavior or training data.

3.3 Circumventing Usage Limits

You may not bypass, disable, or otherwise circumvent any access controls, usage limits, rate limits, or security measures implemented by RedactLaw. This includes creating multiple accounts to evade plan-tier restrictions or manipulating API calls to exceed allocated quotas.

3.4 Illegal Activities

You may not use the Service for any illegal purpose, including but not limited to: facilitating fraud, money laundering, identity theft, obstruction of justice, destruction of evidence, or any activity that violates federal, state, or local laws.

3.5 Account Sharing

You may not share your account credentials with unauthorized individuals or allow others outside your organization to access your account. Each user must have their own account with appropriate permissions. Workspace-level collaboration is permitted within the scope of your subscription plan.

3.6 Automated Scraping or API Abuse

You may not use automated scripts, bots, or crawlers to scrape data from the Service, overload our infrastructure, or otherwise abuse our API or user interface in a manner that degrades performance for other users or violates our Terms of Service.

3.7 Unauthorized Content

You may not upload documents that you do not have the legal right to possess, process, or redact. This includes documents obtained through unauthorized access, theft, hacking, or violation of confidentiality agreements. You are solely responsible for ensuring you have proper authorization to process all uploaded documents.

4. Usage Limits and Fair Use

RedactLaw enforces usage limits based on your subscription tier. These limits are designed to ensure fair access and system stability for all users.

  • You agree to abide by the document processing limits, storage quotas, and concurrent processing restrictions associated with your plan
  • Usage that significantly exceeds reasonable expectations for your plan tier may be flagged for review, even if technical limits have not been reached
  • We reserve the right to temporarily throttle or suspend accounts that exhibit usage patterns consistent with abuse, resale, or non-compliance with this Policy
  • If you require higher limits, please upgrade your plan or contact our sales team for Enterprise pricing

5. Content Responsibility

You are solely responsible for the content of all documents you upload to RedactLaw. RedactLaw does not review, monitor, or take responsibility for the substance, accuracy, or legality of documents processed through the Service. You warrant that you have all necessary rights and permissions to upload and process each document. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless RedactLaw from any claims, damages, or liabilities arising from your uploaded content or your use of the Service.

6. Security Obligations

To protect your account and maintain the security of the Service, you agree to:

  • Maintain the confidentiality of your login credentials and enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) where available
  • Use strong, unique passwords and avoid reusing passwords from other services
  • Immediately notify RedactLaw at contact@redactlaw.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account or become aware of any security vulnerability in the Service
  • Refrain from sharing session tokens, API keys, or access credentials with third parties

7. Monitoring and Enforcement

RedactLaw reserves the right to monitor usage patterns, system logs, and account activity to detect violations of this Policy, ensure Service integrity, and maintain security for all users. While we do not routinely review the content of uploaded documents, we may investigate accounts flagged for suspicious activity, terms-of-service violations, or security incidents. We may employ automated systems to detect malicious files, abuse patterns, or anomalous behavior.

8. Consequences of Violation

Violations of this Acceptable Use Policy may result in one or more of the following actions, at RedactLaw's sole discretion:

  • Warning: A formal written notice of the violation with a request for corrective action
  • Temporary Suspension: Your account may be temporarily suspended while we investigate the violation
  • Permanent Termination: Your account may be permanently terminated, and access to the Service revoked without refund
  • Legal Action: We may pursue legal remedies, including reporting illegal activity to law enforcement, if your conduct violates applicable laws

We reserve the right to cooperate with law enforcement and legal authorities in investigations of illegal activity.

9. Reporting Violations

If you become aware of any violation of this Policy or suspect abuse of the Service, please report it immediately to our security team at contact@redactlaw.com. Include as much detail as possible, including account information, timestamps, and descriptions of the suspected violation. We take all reports seriously and will investigate promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

RedactLaw reserves the right to modify this Acceptable Use Policy at any time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting to this page. We will notify users of material changes via email or through an in-app notification. Your continued use of the Service after changes have been posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
