What is included in the free plan?

The free plan includes 5 documents per month with up to 10 pages each, permanent redaction, and basic PII detection. It is designed for solo attorneys or anyone who wants to try RedactLaw before committing to a paid plan. No credit card is required and the free plan is available forever.

What counts as a document?

Accepted Answer

A document is a single file you upload for redaction, regardless of file format. A 30-page PDF counts as one document. A Word file counts as one document. If you upload a ZIP archive, each file inside counts as a separate document.

Question 3

Can I switch plans at any time?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your plan at any time from your account settings. When you upgrade, the new features are available immediately and we prorate the charge for the remainder of your billing cycle. When you downgrade, the change takes effect at the start of your next billing cycle.

What happens if I exceed my document limit?

If you reach your monthly document limit, you can purchase additional documents on a pay-as-you-go basis at $1.50 per document on the Starter plan, $1.00 on Pro, and $0.75 on Firm. Alternatively, you can upgrade to a higher plan at any time.

Do you offer discounts for non-profits or legal aid organizations?

Yes. We offer a 50% discount for verified non-profit organizations, legal aid societies, and public defender offices. Contact us at sales@redactlaw.com with proof of your non-profit status and we will apply the discount to your account.

What file formats does RedactLaw support?

Accepted Answer

RedactLaw supports PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), and common image formats (JPEG, PNG, TIFF) for scanned documents. OCR is included on Starter plans and above to handle scanned documents that are not machine-readable.

Question 7

How is my data secured?

Accepted Answer

All documents are encrypted in transit with TLS 1.2+ and at rest with AES-256 encryption. Our infrastructure is hosted entirely in the United States on SOC 2 Type II certified data centers. We never use your documents to train AI models. You control your data retention schedule and can delete documents at any time.

Can I try a paid plan before committing?

Yes. All paid plans come with a 14-day free trial with full access to all features in that plan. No credit card is required to start the trial. At the end of the trial, you can choose to subscribe or your account will revert to the free plan.

What is a BAA and do I need one?

Accepted Answer

A Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is a legal contract required under HIPAA when a service provider handles Protected Health Information (PHI) on behalf of a covered entity. If your firm handles medical records or other health-related documents, you likely need a BAA. BAAs are available on the Enterprise plan.

What is the difference between the basic and full audit trail?

The basic audit trail on the Free plan logs which documents were redacted and when. The full audit trail on paid plans includes detailed per-redaction logs: who made each redaction, what entity type was detected, what text was removed, and timestamps for every action. Enterprise plans add custom audit trail fields and export to your compliance system.
